Two years ago I made a few fabric grocery bags in a new design. In shape, they resemble the old plastic bags that used to be given out at the checkout. But unlike those single use plastic bags, these ones are strong and sturdy.

Practical gifts are the way to go when welcoming a newborn into the world - something that looks great, but that you know will be used over and over and over.

I do not consider myself a quilter - even though I've made a few quilts. I've been sewing for many years, but it's only in recent years that I've added quilting to my repertoire. So I was pleasantly surprised when Benita invited me to the 2019 Online Quilters Meet and Greet, with a Great Grand Prize - link to enter at end of post. It's a great opportunity to meet real quilters, and also a good time for me to look at the progress I've made on my quilting journey.

The more I declutter and get rid of unused things in my sewing room, the easier it gets to let go of even more items that I'll never in a million years get around to using.

I've done plenty of appliqué work, but until today, had never heard of shadow appliqué. I love the effect, and what's more, it's a perfect project for using up lots of small scraps of fabric.

Embroidery scissors have quite sharp points, and as such, really should have their own dedicated case for when out and about. Today's showcased tutorial will help, if like me, you need to make a small case for your scissors.

We adults inevitably end up carrying the softies that our kids insist they must bring along when out and about. Not any more! Today's showcased tutorial solves that problem - the kids can carry their own softies in their very own drawstring adventure bag.

In my handbag I carry a both a wallet and a coin purse. The small wallet is for notes and credit cards, whilst the coin purse separately houses coins, USB drive and a Swiss knife set with all sorts of gadgets such as scissors and a nail file. Having both a wallet and coin purse means I can easily carry one or the other, or both.

Progress has been slow on my Grandmother's Flower Garden Quilt. Truth be told, progress has been non-existent, until last week that is. Last July I worked out how I was going to hand sew the hexagons together, but progress stalled.

Today I'm showcasing fifteen FREE fabric bag & tote patterns and tutorials, all with step by step instructions and lots of photos to help you make your own bags.

I don't know about you, but I have many pairs of scissors, strictly for sewing. The cut anything else scissors live on the other side of the room to my sewing scissors. However, I don't have any covers specifically for scissors, to keep the sharp points from damaging other items when I'm out and about. I must rectify this!

Here are the jeans I referred to last week when talking about the return of my sewing mojo - three pairs of men's jeans, all with holes in the crotch area. I honestly feel we should all start to learn how to repair clothes like our grandparents or great grandparents. They put much less strain on our planet, using far less resources per person than we do now-a-days.

Its officially Winter in Australia. We've had a few cold (for us) days, but the last week has seen balmy temperatures in the low 20ºCs (68ºF) in the middle of the day - getting down to 3ºC (37ºF) at night. It will get colder than that, but nothing like the temperatures many of you experience in the Northern Hemisphere.

Drawstring bags are SO easy to whip up, making them a great sewing project for a beginner. Whenever I have the need to pack a bag, whether it be for an overnight stay, a holiday, or travel, I keep my backpack or suitcase organised with drawstring bags in an assortment of sizes. I usually make them with a double drawstring so the top stays closed. Today's tutorial will show you how...

There's a reason fabric companies sell bundles of pre-cut fabric. They're colour co-ordinated, and in most cases will work well in the same project. But what if you want to pick and choose fabrics yourself? This is where I come unstuck. I know what works, or doesn't, when I see the fabrics together. But pulling fabrics from my stash, or the fabric store, can result in frustration, as I don't know why some fabrics work and others don't. Read on to find the answers...

For Mothers Day, my daughter bought me a gorgeous denim tote bag - repurposed from a pair of jeans. This got me thinking about my own stash of pre-loved denim jeans. Some time ago I culled the ever-growing pile, giving over half to an Op Shop. However, I still have a whole tub full left.

A plastic bag just doesn't cut it when it comes to carting around soccer boots and all the gear that's needed when playing for a team sport - not in my world, anyway. What's called for is a sturdy drawstring bag, that keeps everything contained, is light to carry around and is easy to stuff into a larger bag.
