Threading Your Way ~ Features
A couple of people have asked whether there is any way to be notified of new links added to each of our ongoing, themed link parties and I've had to answer... None that I know of. There are 33 unique link parties, with each of us being particularly interested in different ones. Every week there are many new links added, but it varies greatly as to which parties and how many are added.
The weekly features are usually chosen from the last week's additions, so maybe you can use the Featured posts as a reminder to check the parties you are interested in.
We don't celebrate Halloween in Australia, to the extent that it is celebrated in other parts of the world. I haven't personally come across anyone celebrating Halloween in Australia, but I read and see online that it is beginning to take off here. It does look like it's a lot of fun! Don't forget to add any Halloween costumes you've made to the Pretend Dress Up Clothes link party.
Our features for this week...
An ever so pretty dress, linked to the Dresses for Girls link party. You can't go wrong with polka dots (I love them) and combined with the fabric flower, this 50's style dress will never go out of fashion.

Sewing on a suit button...
One of my sons asked me to fix a loose button on a suit. I'd never sewn on a button which required making a shank. With a quick Google search, I found an easy to follow tutorial, over at Made By Hand- The Great Sartorial Debate.

Where it all began...
I've mentioned before, I learnt to sew at school, many moons ago. When we entered 3rd Class, at about age 8, the girls would do sewing once a week, while the boys did cane weaving.
I have no idea what we did first, but it was all hand sewing until we reached 6th Class. I do remember we had to keep a sampler book each year and I suspect the majority of our sewing was learning new skills by making a sample, which we then glued into the book. Oh, how I wish I had kept those sampler books!!! They contained examples of stitches, embroidery and different sewing techniques.

Refashioned Pants...
There is easily enough fabric in a pair of man's pants, to make a pair of pants for a young girl. I began with a pair of Jag cotton/polyester pants and used Butterick B5019.

Sewing Link Parties Revisited...
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a post about Sewing Link Parties, asking readers to add their suggestions on link parties that cater for sewing. At the time, I only knew of three sewing link parties. I've checked out all the suggestions and here's my amended list. Thanks everyone for helping to compile this resource.

Baby Bibs ~ KCWC
Now, I know bibs are not articles of clothing, but they cover and protect clothing, and so, they are my first things finished for the Kids Clothes Week Challenge. Because I committed to sew for one hour per day for seven days, I'm getting more sewing done after gardening.

This and that...
I haven't been spending as much time as I normally do either sewing or blogging. This is because I've been spending the majority of each day, outdoors in the garden. Last Summer was unseasonably wet and so the garden flourished, as did the weeds.
At the time, I was relatively new to blogging and so was quite happy to spend an inordinate number of hours in front of my computer, with the rest of my time spent sewing. And so, I neglected my poor garden.
Don't get me wrong. I LOVE working in my garden. Gardening has been a hobby that began when we moved here to our 3/4 acre block over 30 years ago. Other hobbies have come and gone, but gardening has always remained. Last Summer, however, blogging and sewing took over and I am now trying to get things back under control, before the hot weather begins again.

Fab Folds Voting...
Last month I took part in the Fab Folds Challenge, hosted by Rikka, from Ricochet and Away. The challenge was to sew something that incorporates either pleats, pintucks or smocking.
This was a great challenge, with a fabulous group of girls!!! Here are the entries by all the participants. My pintucked skirt is in very good company.

Sewing Link Parties...
Each week I link to lots of link parties:
While I'm interested in a lot of things, the majority of posts that I like to read, are sewing related. Other than Threading YOUR Way with Threading My Way I've only found two link parties that cater mainly or exclusively for sewing.
- to show off my projects
- to look at other projects that may interest me
- to find new blogs I might enjoy reading
