Sewn by YOU ~ Fabric Baskets with Drawstring Closure

I absolutely adore it when I come across projects you have made with one of my tutorials. I love seeing the end results - the fabric combinations and modifications that make it yours. Today I thought I'd show you some awesome baskets I found on Instagram, all made using my Fabric Basket with Drawstring Top tutorial.

It's a long tutorial, but not as hard as it may look. The baskets shown today were made by a range of sewists - from experienced to relative beginners. Click on the photos to take you to each basket. If there's an arrow at the right of the photo, clicking will take you to more views of that basket.

Long time readers of Threading My Way know that I have a thing for text fabric.

... fun 'Spike' the hedgehog appliqué for a hedgehog loving friend.

... a cute gift for a young lady.

... a fun Easter basket for a car loving toddler - without the drawstring top and cord.

... beautiful ballerina fabric - the perfect choice for a dance teacher's gift bag.

... polka dot fabric - another of my favourites - co-ordinates beautifully with those fun teapots.

... cute cats, checks and a pretty floral hidden inside.

... stunning fabric for #sewingaccessoriesswap2019/

How did I find these talented people? They've all tagged - @threadingmyway - or hashtagged - #threadingmyway - on Instagram. Thank you, ladies!!! I adore looking at your projects. Makes my day - every, single time.

You might also like to look at more reader sewn Fabric Baskets with Drawstring Tops - well worth a look!

I've made three baskets with drawstring tops so far - the two shown above in the first picture, and one I use as a sewing basket, with longer handles. As evidenced by several of the baskets above, they make great gift baskets. They're also great storage solutions for small items - matchbox cars or other small toys, makeup or toiletries and on the go projects like knitting or crocheting.

Because of the drawstring cord, this basket is not suitable for children under 3 years of age.

  1. Yet another illustration of how fabric choice will always make a difference. We all have our individual likes and dislikes, but I am consistently reminded of how an item made from the same pattern can pop or not, depending on the choice of fabric.

I still like your little cars version the best. (And yes, I totally get the "high" that comes from randomly seeing others make a project that you designed.)

  2. They look awesome Pam. I agree with Rochelle. Fabric choice makes such a difference. What a compliment to your talent to see so many people making use of this project! I'm imagining a French Script print with burlap, or a neutral overblown rose print and a toning pinstripe for my taste. Mimi xxx
