Threading Your Way ~ Swimwear ~ Link Party

Welcome to the twenty seventh edition of Threading YOUR Way with Threading My Way. Each ongoing, themed link party is steadily growing into a resource full of ideas and inspiration.
Remember, these linkys are ongoing, so you can continue to add projects throughout the year. Add as many projects as you would like.

Our twenty seventh linky for 2012 is everything Swimwear. If you have previously linked up one of these items in another category, feel free to link it up here again.

Swimwear
Link up any family friendly posts that you have written on Swimwear: swimming costumes, rash shirts, swim shirts, cover ups, towels, sun hats... anything that you might wear to the beach or the pool.  Your posts might (but don't have to) include any of the following:
  • how you made it
  • tutorials
  • photos
  • pattern reviews
  • tips for making
  • what you learnt
As long as YOU have made it, link it up and show it off. Link up as many posts on Swimwear, as you would like. Come back through the year and add more.

Guidelines for linking up:
  • Each post needs to be about Swimwear.
  • Link to a specific post (not the home page of your blog).
  • No direct links to shops or giveaways.
The fine print:
  • By linking up, you are giving me permission to use one of your photos in a feature. I will, of course, link back to your post, giving you full credit.
If you'd like:
  • Subscribe to Threading My Way (GFC, RSS, email), to keep up to date, to see if you've been featured and to know when the next themed party starts.
  • Grab a button to spread the word about Threading YOUR Way with Threading My Way and put it somewhere on your blog.
  • Visit some of the other links. Everyone loves comments.
I usually post Features each Saturday on Threading My Way. Features are chosen from all of the linkys, not just the most recent.

I look forward to seeing your Swimwear...

Threading Your Way ~ Features

It wasn't hard to predict that the Clothes for Men Link Party would be a small one. We seem to sew for our kids first, for us second and lastly for our men. Are men's clothes harder to sew, too much of the same, the recipients are too picky or do we lack confidence?

I'll be sewing for Mr TMW again soon, but the next two items won't be clothing. Mr TMW saw some fabric he liked the other day and so we purchased it, ready to make a couple of things he'd like.

I'll be finishing my quilt first. I've pinned it together. The beautiful Winter sunshine called me out to the garden today, but I'll start on the quilting tonight.

When I finish my quilt, I'm making something that was linked up to the Kitchen Accessories Link Party. I have most of the materials on hand and have purchased the one thing I didn't have. I can't tell you what it is yet, as it will be a present.

You can add projects to any of our 26 link parties at any time. A new ongoing party begins each Sunday. Features, which are usually done each Saturday, can be chosen from any of the parties. There's a list at the bottom of the post.

    Our features for this week...

I was so impressed with these outfits linked to the Clothes for Men Link Party:
An awesome reversible bag linked to the Bags and Totes Link Party:
A gorgeous pair of baby shorts linked to the Baby Clothes and Accessories Link Party:
And three pink, girlie and fun outfits linked to the Pretend Dress Up Clothes Link Party:

Head on over and visit these talented ladies.

Each week, I will place a blog button, belonging to the blog which was most viewed, in my sidebar. This week the most viewed link  is the Blue Plaid Shirt. Andrea, look out for your blog button in my sidebar.

Feel free to grab a button if you've been featured...

You can find the Master list of ongoing link parties at Threading YOUR Way with Threading My Way

Don't forget, all of our link parties are ONGOING and will remain open all year. You can add links to any party at any time.
A new party for Swimwear  begins tomorrow. Thanks, Cindy, for the suggestion.

I look forward to seeing more of your creativity...

    Cushion in a Bag...

Mr TMW needed a small cushion, so I thought I'd make one. I modelled it on one I bought from IKEA quite a while ago.

My TMW was definite that he wanted a plain fabric and was happy with this blue. At one point he came into the room while I was sewing and asked, You are just making it plain? He had spotted a denim bag with flowers on my desk and thought I must be adding flowers to his cushion.

As you can see, it's just a simple cushion (14" x 14") with an envelope closure. I've deliberately made the cover a little loose.

To create a roll, the cushion is doubled over and put inside a drawstring bag.

In theory, the cushion can then be used with or without the bag, depending on the required shape. In reality, however, it takes about 5 minutes to push the cushion into the bag, so not really practical. My original IKEA cushion is made from a nylon type fabric, hence it is very easy to take in and out. If I'd made the bag a little larger, it would have been OK.

I'm linking my cushion in a bag to our ongoing Pillows and Cushions Link Party. At last count, there were 80 fabulous pillows and cushions linked up... lots of ideas and inspiration.

Next month, I'm joining in with the 2 in 1 Sewing Challenge over at Ricochet and Away. The idea of the challenge is to sew something that can be transformed into a new look or a new item. This is not my entry, but it could be. I have something else in mind for the challenge. Stay tuned...

        Fabric Letters...

You may remember the fabric letters I made as part of the Typography Challenge. I've made some more.

My inspiration came from a rag quilt letters tutorial, by Jessica from Happy Together. Jessica's letters are made with batting and are quilted. I used Jessica's free pattern for the letters, but I made mine slightly differently.

Pin the letters to fabric and felt. If you use felt as a backing, read the care instructions, as many types can't be washed or put in the dryer. I've used acrylic felt which is not suitable for either washing or putting in the dryer.

Being careful to stay away from the pins, sew around the letters. Don't worry if you accidentally sew parts of the paper, as you can tear it away when finished.

Cut close to the stitching. I left my Typography Challenge letters like this, but they are fraying.

Zig zag the edges and you are done.

Here are my fabric letters finished... all pinks and blues.

Four sets of letters for four little people, each set containing the letters of their name.

Threading Your Way ~ Clothes for Men ~ Link Party

Welcome to the twenty fifth edition of Threading YOUR Way with Threading My Way. Each ongoing, themed link party is steadily growing into a resource full of ideas and inspiration.

Remember, these linkys are ongoing, so you can continue to add projects throughout the year. Add as many projects as you would like.

Our twenty fifth linky for 2012 is everything Sewing, Knitting and Crocheting for Men. I'm not expecting this to be a big party. In fact, I'm sure this will be a small party. If you have previously linked up one of these items in another category, feel free to link it up here again.

Back in the 80s, I used to sew sweaters and trackpants for Mr TMW.  Most of those clothes are still being worn. I bought quality fleece and it has stood the test of time. Now that I have the time again, Mr TMW has said he'd like some more.

For those of you who were not around in the 80s, fluoro colours were all the rage, so I made this outfit for Mr TMW and he loved it. He even wore the top to work one day, even though he was in a job where most wore a shirt and tie.

Thankfully, this tracksuit is no longer worn, although this post may prompt Mr TMW to dig it out of the back of the wardrobe.  One of my sons, however, was glad his father kept the outfit. Here is my son in his father's tracksuit at a back to the 80s party.

Hopefully I won't be making anything quite as bright as this.
