Three Quarter Pants...

I have just finished 3/4 pants, using Butterick B5019. I found the pattern to be on the large side and too long. I ended up taking two inces off the length. The fit is definitely not as snug fitting as in the picture. How good the instructions are, I don't know. I only used the pattern to cut out the fabric.

Instead of the normal hem, I just made a 1/2" hem and then added three rows of shirring. The result was exactly the effect I was after.

Here are the bows I made using the tutorial by Dani, from Live Creatively Now. You can read the post on my perfect bows here. I popped one bow on the bottom of each leg, and one at the waist.

The extra width didn't matter. In fact, in this instance it is a good thing as I think it rather suits the style, not to mentions there is plenty of room for growth. The pants rather remind me of genie pants and that's the picture I had in my mind when I thought of adding the shirring.

There are still two more items to make before the outfit is finished. If you remember, I made a fourth bow with extra loops. I'm sure you can guess what that's going to be used for. I'll show you the completed outfit soon...

  1. How cute! I used to love to sew for my kids when they were litte. A small bit of fabric went a long way and everything was so cute! :D

  4. These are darling!!! You are an official shirring pro! :)

I've found Butterick patterns to be sized big too, so it's not just you. Babe is nearly 2 and can still wear things made as size 1 from their patterns....and she's a solid sized little girl too. :)

Can't wait to see the complete creation!

  5. So cute! I find that almost all the store bought pants patterns for kids are cut too roomy. In the paisley corduroy shorts I recently made, I think I cut at least 4" of width off both the front and back pieces and still had plenty of fabric gathered after I added the elastic waistband.
Can't wait to see the rest!
