I made these felt robot finger puppets for one of the little people in the family, last Christmas and they were very well received.
That meant I would have to come up with ideas to make my own robot finger puppets. I was, of course making these puppets in a rush, right before Christmas, and I needed inspiration. Off to Google again, but this time broadening my search and I found a fantastic felt robot finger puppet that had been made and sold by Sarah-Louise, from The Puppet Tree, on Etsy. Oh, how I wished this was a PDF pattern and not a finished puppet.
I used Sarah-Louise's robot, as inspiration to make my own. I began with the green and yellow one, bottom left in the photo above. That one is almost the same as Sarah-Louise's although not nearly as well made. Once I had made the first one, I found it easier to think of different ideas.
You can see how much of a rush I was in, as I have used the one coloured thread throughout. Maybe that's why the navy and pink one is my favourite, as the thread colour is correct for this one. Oh well, at least you can see how I made them... no explanation necessary.
Luckily I had a few scraps of robot fabric, which enabled me to whip up a treasure bag... just perfect for housing the five puppets.
Before I wrote this post, I contacted Sarah-Louise to see whether she would mind me posting photos of my puppets, especially given that my first puppet is almost the same as hers. Sarah-Louise replied, saying she was more than happy for me to show my photos, as long as it was made obvious that I was not making and selling her original design as my own.
Thank you, Sarah-Louise for letting me make my robot finger puppets, inspired by yours and based on your design. The little recipient thanks you, too.
Head on over to Etsy and see the beautiful hand sewn puppets made by The Puppet Tree. There aren't any for sale at the moment, but Sarah-Louise is thinking of making PDF patterns in the future.

The robot finger puppets are so cute! Isn't it funny how you'll have an idea for something and think there must be a pattern or pictures out there by the billions...but then you start searching and can't find it anywhere?
