Goodbye 2015 ~ Hello 2016

Happy New Year!!! On the east coast of Australia it's already 2016. The last twelve months have just flown past!!! I can remember my parents saying that each year disappears faster than the one before it. Unfortunately, they were correct. To add to the problem I seem to have more that I want to achieve each year.

If you've been reading Threading My Way for any length of time, you'll know that gardening is one of my passions. When I'm not sewing, I can often be found out in my garden. Mr TMW has suggested that I attach a bicycle flag to my gardening gear. We have a reasonably large block (¾ acre) and he sometimes takes a long time to find me when I'm outside.

Mr TMW is not quite as keen on outside work as I am, but we've both been working very hard, trying to get the block cleared and under control. We're getting there, but we have a way to go yet.

The more I do in my garden, the more satisfaction I get, and the more I want to spend time out there. For some, gardening is just plain hard work, like housework, but for me, it's a lot like sewing - arranging and re-arranging till a plan, or project, takes shape. There are so many factors to consider - colours, sizes, shapes, what goes well with what, which thing works in each particular situation.

The more time I spend, the better I get at designing - exactly like sewing! In 2015 I felt I made real progress with matching and co-ordinating fabrics. Practise makes perfect! Nowhere near perfection yet, but I'm enjoying the journey.

According to my stats, the projects above were the most viewed in 2015. They're all tutorials, which I suppose is not surprising. I'm aiming to write lots more tutorials this year. The first is underway - how I sew zipper tabs.

I say this every year, but I am hoping this year will be the one where I sew some clothes for ME. I made a start today and bought a couple of metres of cotton cheesecloth and a pattern for a blouse. My family know me well and I have several gift vouchers to redeem at three different stores. Partially spending the first voucher means my cheesecloth blouse will cost nothing but my time.

Do you have plans for this year? For me, it'll be working out whether it's sewing and gardening, or gardening and sewing.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2016, filled with lots of fun and laughter, with a large dose of sewing, crafting and creating.

... Pam

  2. Another 12 hours here before it's 2016!!! Happy New Year Pam!!! I posted my goals on my blog for 2016, so it will be interesting to see if I do stick with them. In another 365 more days I can look back and see if I did accomplish what I started out with in this new year.

  4. Happy New Year to you too. It's 4:24pm eastern time in US as I write. So we still have almost 8 hrs left of 2015! Looking forward to seeing your sewing projects as well as others shared here during the coming year. Wish my arthritis would let me work and have a beautiful garden like yours.

  5. A bicycle flag - what a hoot! I don't enjoy gardening myself, but I can picture you working away in the back 40 and not being visible - the bike flag is a great idea, but SO SO funny! I bet my goals for 2016 are the same as a lot of peoples --- eat less, move more, sew more, shop less :D One of the things I want to concentrate on is trying new projects - using patterns I've bought, and trying tutorials I've pinned. I say that every year, but this year I have ideas in mind - like a goal challenge with a friend! ;) - to help me succeed. 2016 is arriving in an hour - hubby ended up working today (it was supposed to be a day off to cover for the day he worked earlier that he was ALSO supposed to have off), then he got called out on 2 separate service calls, so he didn't get home until 8:30 p.m., and fell asleep by 9:00!! I've been puttering around preparing for tomorrow's lunch and I'm about to head to bed in a few minutes too - I won't be seeing 2016 arrive, but I hope everyone has a happy and SAFE NYE :D

  6. I love reading about your gardening! What a lovely area you have. The bicycle flag made me laugh because I could immediately see that! Happy New Year. I'm not sure what my plan is for the new year of sewing. I think I need to stop buying fabric and sew up what I have though. I'm really going to (try) to stick to sewing only what I know I will really wear. I get excited about dresses or skirt patterns, but throwing on a nice fitting jeans is so much more comfortable! You have given me the desire to sew bags because of your easy tutorials, so I see many gifts in the future for friends and family. :)

  8. Gardening and sewing - sounds like a great 2016 lined up for you! And good luck on the sewing for you in particular, always an easy one to get swamped by everything else.
