What's Happening in May...

Just a quick heads up on some sewing related happenings in May...

You and Me is a series to celebrate the art of sewing and the art of building relationships with our children throughout different ages and stages of their lives. Jenya, from While she was sleeping, will introduce the series May 12th. Look out for my guest post May 19th.

Hopeful ThreadsThe Spring Fluff Drive is the current sew-along to help others, over at Hopeful Threads. You can join Kristy in her aim to make 500 soft toys for children in foster care.

AmysCreativeSide.comAmy's Creative Side is hosting the Bloggers Quilt Festival. The festival runs for two weeks, with the opportunity for your quilts to be nominated to win by your peers.

Enter the Jaywalk Sewing Competition, over at Tessuti Fabrics, and be in the running to win $1000AUS. Make whatever garment you would like with Tessuti's Jaywalk jersey fabric, reduced to more than half price for the duration of the competition.

Deby, from So Sew Easy, is hosting the Make It Yours Sewing Contest. Sew the Make It Yours bag using the free pattern, giving it your own touches... anything which sets your bag apart from the rest and makes it your own design. There are some fabulous prizes.

The Spring Top Sewalong is a personal sewing challenge to sew at least one top for yourself and share it to inspire others to do the same. Made by Rae is hosting the sewalong, which finishes May 11th.

Sara, from Sew Sweetness, is hosting the Jaybird Quilts Sew Along. You have until Friday, June 13th to make something from Jaybird Quilts patterns and be eligible for some outstanding prizes.

Apply one of the three improvisational pleating techniques, or invent your own, to enter the Improvisational Pleating Contest. You have until May 26th to enter this contest, hosted by An, from Straight Grain.

The next season of Project Sewn will begins May 5th. Run by the girls from Simple Simon and Co, the competition focuses on women's garments. 

Flip This Pattern
The sisters at Frances Suzanne have chosen the Run Around Romper, by the Cottage Mamma, as the pattern to flip this month. The sew-along will remain open until May 22nd.


Fat Quarter Shop is hosting the Great Granny Sew Along. You will need a copy of Great Granny Squared by Lori Holt, to sew the Mama's Crochet Quilt.

Sew Mama Sew is hosting two Spring Sew Alongs. You have till the end of May to sew a quilt and be eligible for prizes.

Le ChallengeEvery 15th of every month, there is a new theme for all crafters to interpret in their choice of crafty weapons. The current theme at Le Challenge is NATURE. One winner will be chosen at random.

Umbrella Prints challenges you to create something different and wonderful from little pieces of printed fabric for the Umbrella Prints Trimmings Competition. There are some fabulous prizes.

May's project over at The Monthly Stitch, is Sew Stretchy. You can sew dresses, tops, pants, exercise gear, swimsuits, anything as long as you are using stretch fabric.

Elegance & ElephantsFrom May 1st - 9th you have the opportunity to link up any projects where kids have chosen the fabric. Kids' Choice is being hosted by Heidi from Elegance and Elephants. Thanks, Magda, for telling me about this.
