Gathered Round Fabric Basket...

Here's my latest project... a gathered, round, fabric basket, made from the same brown fabric used in my favourite drawstring bag... Fluttering Wings and Colourful Things, Cynthia Coulter, from Wilmington Prints.

Lisa, from A Spoonful of Sugar, added her gathered, round, fabric basket tutorial to the Drawstring Bags and Fabric Baskets link party, here on Threading My Way, a couple of weeks ago. The little basket appealed to me: both the design and the fact that I knew it would be super quick to make.

Somehow or another, this little basket jumped the queue and made its way to the top of my very long To Do list. It's made from small pieces of fabric and came together very quickly. Instead of slip stitching the binding in place, I've used my machine to stitch in the ditch, which makes the inside not quite as neat and prevents the basket from being reversible, but cuts down on the time to make it.

Lisa's fabric basket was featured at All Free Sewing, as one of the 100 free top sewing tutorials for 2012, in the DIY Organisers category, along with my fabric basket.

I'll be making more of these little baskets, but they are going to have to wait their turn in the queue.

  5. Pam i love your fabric baskets. although i used to make either straw, raffia and rope baskets. The only cloth connected baskets was when i wrapped rope or torn cloth with cloth . Strangely enough lately i am thinking to resume doing this,,, amongst other reasons because it will use some of my left overs,,,, and because it is a nice way to express myself in 3D.

  12. I was thinking of using a machine stitch on the binding if I made it too, quick is good.
