Pillowcases for hospital...

No one wants to have to go to hospital, least of all kids and especially not at Christmas time.

To spread a little cheer to children spending time in a hospital over Christmas, Kristy, over at Hopeful Threads, is running Stockings of Cheer, the sew-along for the month of November.

I'd been meaning to do some sewing for Pillowcases for Oncology Kids, a group who, throughout the year, sew and donate pillowcases to oncology kids in hospitals around Australia. Kristy's sew-along was just the motivation I needed to get started.

A few of my pillowcases have a definite Christmas theme, some have Christmassy colours, while others are just fabric that I think will appeal to children. Hopefully they'll bring a smile to the faces of the little people who receive them. Here's some of my favourites:

It's easy to make a pillowcase and doesn't take much time at all. For the measurements, I used the same tutorial as for previous pillowcases I've made. There's lots of good tutorials online.

Not so long ago, Marisa, from Passion et Couture, showed how to make a pillowcase with no visible seams on the inside. Next time, when I'm not in a rush, I'm going to use Marisa's tutorial.

Over at the Hopeful Threads Flickr group, there are some gorgeous Christmas stockings and gift bags. I'll be adding photos of my 16 pillowcases and then packing them up to send to the NSW representative of Pillowcases for Oncology Kids. If you would like to make a pillowcase for a child in hospital, donations of handmade pillowcases can be made at any time of the year.

There is still lots of time left to join in with the Stockings of Cheer sew-along. Thank you Kristy, for once again motivating me...
