Text Fabric ~ Reusable Grocery Bag ~ My Favourite

It's no secret that I LOVE text fabric - doesn't matter what the text says, or even if it's legible or in another language. I think that just adds to the appeal.

When I showed you the text fabric nail polish bag that I recently gifted, I mentioned I'd also made a grocery bag in a different colour way, but had forgotten to take photos. Well, I've since made a couple for myself, and here's one of them in action - filled with leggings purchased for the too short skirts I recently made.

The dark navy is the same as the fabric I used for the two double wine bottle bags I made - for Mr TMW and a friend - The Wordsmith by Janet Clare, for Moda. I think in the dark colour, it would have to be my all time favourite text fabric.

After making three grocery bags and two double wine bottle bags, I only have a few small scraps left to play with - maybe there's some more makeup bags in the future - no definite plans, yet.

The handle fabric is the same as that used on my drawstring top sewing basketFocus on Craft Design 4795 - at $6m on sale I couldn't help myself and bought a whole bolt, so lots of that one left. At the time I wondered how I'd use it, but it actually co-ordinates really well with a wide range of fabrics.

This style of bag is my favourite for grocery shopping - it's roomy, easy to carry thanks to the wide handles and folds up easily when not in use. For more thoughts on the grocery bag, and links to the pattern, check out my full review.

I've lost track of how many I've made now - and I have another seven in the works for presents and a larger project I'm working on. More on that in a couple of months.

My pretty pink floral grocery bags will have to take second place now, thanks to my two new bags... LOL!!!

The reality, however, is that I use these bags all the time, and when grocery shopping they need washing at regular intervals, so I'll be using them all - old and new. I just bung them in the wash with other things, and don't even bother to iron them afterwards. Truth be told, this bag wasn't even ironed after I made it, and hence for these photos. You wouldn't have known if I hadn't told you, would you?

  1. Such a gorgeous bag. Love both the fabrics you used. The text fabric is fabulous, but oh, my heart has a case of the 'wanties' for the handle fabric!

  2. This looks like a really sturdy bag, too! I love the text fabric. I don't know why but it always makes such a great neutral print.
