Easy Peasy Peasant Dress ~ Pattern Review

I've made quite a few peasant dresses with the Easy Peasy Peasant Dress by Tie Dye Diva, so I thought it was about time I wrote a pattern review.

There are two versions of the pattern, sold separately and as a bundle:

I have sewn both and the construction is the same for each version.

Unlike some peasant dress patterns, this one includes pattern pieces - back, front and sleeves, with a definite front and back to the shaped sleeves. Four sleeves are included: flutter, short sleeves, ¾ and full length.

There is a body measurement chart and a finished garment chart, making it easy to choose the correct size. I have sewn several sizes and the finished garment chart is spot on.

Quantities of materials are listed and suggestions given for suitable fabric types.

The PDF pattern pieces are easy to tile and tape together, with markings on each page as well as clear directions showing how. There is also a handy diagram showing how the printed pages should look when taped together. Printing instructions are included. You need to print all sizes. I like to keep the original and trace the size/s I need.

The pattern pieces are defined by different colours and have useful, relevant markings:

• grainline
• notches
• fold 
• name of each piece
• name of pattern
• size

Measurements for elastic are included on the actual pattern, as well as in the instructions. I like as much information as possible on the pattern pieces, as it saves having to refer to the pattern. 

All the peasant dresses shown have flutter sleeves. I especially like the flutter sleeve finish with bias binding, as it makes for a very neat finish.

There is an option to add a ruffle to the hemline. I have recently sewn a few with ruffles, but no photos yet. I have also modified the pattern and have made a few dresses with a narrow band at the hemline. You can see an example of the narrow band on the pink Paris dress (first photo).

All of these photos have been taken by my daughter, Tash (Little Ladybird). She'll be taking photos of the ruffled dresses in a few days.

Gathering at the neckline can be done with elastic threaded through a casing, as I have done, or with shirring. The pattern includes a shirring tutorial with lots of tips. Gathers on the short and long sleeves can also be done either way.

The instructions are well set out, comprehensive and easy to follow. Photographs clearly show each step, with right and wrong sides of the fabric being easy to distinguish. A few steps have diagrams. 

Only imperial measurements (inches) are given, so you may need to refer to an online inches to cm converter, if you use the metric system.

When we were deciding which peasant dress pattern to use for our Flutter Sleeved Peasant Dresses at Evie & Flynn, I spent quite a lot of time looking at pattern listings. We had a particular style in mind and the Easy Peasy Peasant Dress by Tie Dye Diva had exactly the look we were after. I did purchase another peasant dress pattern as well, but didn't use it as I preferred the construction methods used in the Tie Dye Diva pattern.

The Easy Peasy Peasant Dress is a great garment for young girls. It can be worn in the hotter months with its cool relaxed fit and beautiful A-lined shape, or it can be layered with leggings and a jacket or cardigan in the colder months. 

The style is versatile and will most probably fit for a few seasons. The dresses worn in the modelled photos are a size 2/3. The model is a size 4, (according to measurements), showing how the dress can be worn at a shorter length. The dress can be transformed into a swing top as your little girl grows.
