Easy Peasy Peasant Dress ~ Pattern Review

I've made quite a few peasant dresses with the Easy Peasy Peasant Dress by Tie Dye Diva, so I thought it was about time I wrote a pattern review.

Easy Peasy Peasant Dress - Pattern Review ~ Pattern by Tie Dye Diva ÷ Sewn by Threading My Way

There are two versions of the pattern, sold separately and as a bundle:
I have sewn both and the construction is the same for each version.

Unlike some peasant dress patterns, this one includes pattern pieces - back, front and sleeves, with a definite front and back to the shaped sleeves. Four sleeves are included: flutter, short sleeves, ¾ and full length.

There is a body measurement chart and a finished garment chart, making it easy to choose the correct size. I have sewn several sizes and the finished garment chart is spot on.

Quantities of materials are listed and suggestions given for suitable fabric types.

The PDF pattern pieces are easy to tile and tape together, with markings on each page as well as clear directions showing how. There is also a handy diagram showing how the printed pages should look when taped together. Printing instructions are included. You need to print all sizes. I like to keep the original and trace the size/s I need.

The pattern pieces are defined by different colours and have useful, relevant markings:
  • grainline
  • notches
  • fold
  • name of each piece
  • name of pattern
  • size
Measurements for elastic are included on the actual pattern, as well as in the instructions. I like as much information as possible on the pattern pieces, as it saves having to refer to the pattern.

All the peasant dresses shown have flutter sleeves. I especially like the flutter sleeve finish with bias binding, as it makes for a very neat finish.

There is an option to add a ruffle to the hemline. I have recently sewn a few with ruffles, but no photos yet. I have also modified the pattern and have made a few dresses with a narrow band at the hemline. You can see an example of the narrow band on the pink Paris dress (first photo).

All of these photos have been taken by my daughter, Tash (Little Ladybird). She'll be taking photos of the ruffled dresses in a few days.

Gathering at the neckline can be done with elastic threaded through a casing, as I have done, or with shirring. The pattern includes a shirring tutorial with lots of tips. Gathers on the short and long sleeves can also be done either way.

The instructions are well set out, comprehensive and easy to follow. Photographs clearly show each step, with right and wrong sides of the fabric being easy to distinguish. A few steps have diagrams.

Only imperial measurements (inches) are given, so you may need to refer to an online inches to cm converter, if you use the metric system.

When we were deciding which peasant dress pattern to use for our Flutter Sleeved Peasant Dresses at Evie & Flynn, I spent quite a lot of time looking at pattern listings. We had a particular style in mind and the Easy Peasy Peasant Dress by Tie Dye Diva had exactly the look we were after. I did purchase another peasant dress pattern as well, but didn't use it as I preferred the construction methods used in the Tie Dye Diva pattern.

The Easy Peasy Peasant Dress is a great garment for young girls. It can be worn in the hotter months with its cool relaxed fit and beautiful A-lined shape, or it can be layered with leggings and a jacket or cardigan in the colder months.

The style is versatile and will most probably fit for a few seasons. The dresses worn in the modelled photos are a size 2/3. The model is a size 4, (according to measurements), showing how the dress can be worn at a shorter length. The dress can be transformed into a swing top as your little girl grows.

The Easy Peasy Peasant Dress is a great pattern, and one I will most definitely be using again.

  1. Thank you for your review of Tie Dye Divas peasant dress pattern, I often look at her patterns and think they look great but I wondered about how they fit, how hard to understand, etc. No more wondering!! The dresses you made are so pretty and I love how they fit and the shape of them and how they fit around the the armhole, so often a pattern is just too big and revealing around the armhole :)

    1. Thanks, Sheila. Just remember to go by the measurement chart for the fit.

  2. This really is a nice peasant dress, Pam. I enjoyed reading your informative and insightful review!

  3. Pretty dresses, Pam! This pattern looks a little different from other peasant dress patterns, because of the flow-y shape and the flutter sleeves. I like the bias tape finish a lot!

  4. Pam,
such lovely, girly dresses! I just cannot decide on which one is my favorite!

  5. I love the peasant dress style, you're so right with how versatile it is, and sounds like this is a great pattern for it. I've been hunting through my stash for the last few days when I get a minute, for some fabric to make one for Maria. I've made a couple of things for Venetia recently and it's Maria's turn now, she's really fussy with the comfort side of dresses and so a peasant dress is just perfect for her. Sadly I have an idea in my head of how I want it to look and I just can't find what I want amongst my masses of fabric, which seems a bit off! I'm thinking of getting some dye out though now.

  6. A gorgeous dress, no sewing is easy peasy to me but I love the contrasting colours you use on the sleeves and the patterns do look managable. Popping by from Creative Monday

  7. I need to save this for when i have, eh hem, time to sew! ha This makes me want to get back into it!

    1. Thank so much. If only there were more hours in a day.

  8. These are so sweet, great work Pam :)
Thanks for sharing at Creative Mondays

  9. Thanks for the review! -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures

  10. They are all so cute, Pam! These definitely look like a good summer dress to make with my daughter. Maybe we both could make one at the same time! Thanks for sharing at Pinbellish. I'm so happy you stopped by!

  11. Hi, Pam! Featuring this pin at #Pinbellish tomorrow! I hope you stop back by to link up something great! Thanks!

  12. I have just purchased this pattern and don't see the pattern piece for the FLUTTER sleeve. What am I missing?

    1. There is a flutter sleeve cutting line on the sleeve pattern piece. All sleeves are cut from the same pattern piece, but cut on the appropriate line for length - flutter, short, ¾ or long. On the cutting layout Print & Assemble the Pattern, page 4, the flutter sleeve length seems to be missing, but, on my copy of the pattern, it is there on the actual patter piece. Hope this helps.

  13. I was looking for a pattern similar to the one I used for my girls in the 1980s, as I want to make similar dresses for my granddaughters. This pattern is so similar and is just perfect, so I was thrilled to find it on your post. I've now bought the pattern and will probably get started cutting out some dresses for Miss 14 months.

  14. I'm sure you had great knowledge about this. This information is excellent and needy for everyone. Thank you
