Scooter Buddy...

Scooter Buddy... a bag to hang from a scooter. Tutorial by Sew Outnumbered ~ Sewn by Threading My Way

Today I'm joining in with Natalie, from Sew Outnumbered, for Day 5 of the Scooter Buddy blog tour. As soon as I saw the scooter buddy, I knew I was going to make one. Nat's invitation to join the blog tour just made it happen faster.

Bike baskets are nothing new, but I'd never before seen a bag specifically designed to hang from a child's scooter. There's a handy zippered compartment for securely storing small items, such as Ginger here, or maybe something of yours that you don't want to carry.

The scooter buddy is removable and washable, a must, in my opinion, for anything kid related. I've used velcro, but you could just as easily use snaps.

It seems to be my month for placing fabric upside down. If I'd reversed the straps, they'd be right way up. I didn't even realise till I looked at the photos on the computer... LOL!!! So, I'm guessing no one else will notice either.

The roomy pocket will allow your little one to take their favourite softies for a ride, even two at a time.

I really didn't want to take photos with Peter Rabbit, or Hop Hop, as he's known here, because that's the same softie as Abby used for her post on the Scooter Buddy blog tour. However, after trying several toys, he was the best fit for photographic purposes. Seems like he's a popular toy.

Little Mister, on the other hand, has decided that the Scooter Buddy is perfect for carrying Ninja turtles. He'll be able to fit in lots.

The Scooter Buddy tutorial is very easy to follow and doesn't take long to sew. As I so often do, I left sewing till the last minute. I had plenty of time left to do the actual sewing, but as I don't have a scooter here, I had to time the sewing to fit in with a visit where I could take photos of the Scooter Buddy on an actual scooter. Otherwise, how could you see how good it is? That left me sewing in a rush, but I made it.

I omitted trimming the bottom of the bag to make it narrower. Instead, I added 2" boxed corners instead of the original 1". Ha, ha... why is it we always have to change things just a little, when the original is perfectly fine?

The fabric matches Little Mister's latest pair of shorts. It's Broom Broom Small, designed by my daughter, Little Ladybird.

I've already been asked to make another Scooter Buddy, but not in car fabric. The next one will be in butterfly fabric, as per the request, or pink flower fabric. I'll see what I can find in my stash. The good thing is, you only need small amounts of each fabric.

  1. I love your version! And no one could ever see those cars upside-down, unless ou point them out... at least I didn't notice them!
I totally agree on your "changing a little a perfect pattern" too! I can't sew something exactly as instructed, I must add a drop of "me" ;)

  3. Oh I like your version - such fun fabrics :) I would do the bottom the same way you did - I too very rarely follow patterns/tutorials exactly - I tend to find ways to make them easier for me, lol!

  4. What a great little pouch! One of my aunts uses a walker. I bet it would be great for that, too! -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
