Gold Star...

First Place Winner!

In July I took part in the 2 in 1 Sewing Challenge, hosted by Rikka, from Ricochet and Away. The theme of the challenge, was to sew something that could be transformed into a new look or a new item.

I made my Petal Pocket Pillow for the challenge. Of all the projects I have ever made, this is perhaps the one I am most proud of.

The challenge was a lot of fun and I learnt heaps!!! Those who are awarded a star, have bragging rights. Well.... I've been awarded the Gold Star you can see above, so I'm allowed to brag... LOL!!!

This month, I'm taking part in the next challenge...

Fab Folds Sewing Challenge

The challenge is to sew something that incorporates either pleats, pintucks or smocking.

A very small component of the challenge is the competition at the end. But don't let that turn you off. The competitive bit is really only for fun and bragging rights. The month of the challenge is about:
  • meeting new people
  • interacting and sharing with the other entrants
  • learning new skills
  • having fun
I've loved pintucks ever since my Mum made me this blouse, as part of my Senior High School uniform. You can't see in the photo, but the front has rows of pintucks.

I have never sewn pintucks, so this would be a first for me. Smocking also appeals as it can really make an article look so pretty and it would be a new skill. At this stage, I'm thinking I'll make a piece of clothing, probably for a little girl.

If you'd like to join in, head on over to the Fab Folds Challenge home page and sign up. You can sew anything you like, as long as it incorporates pleats, pintucks or smocking.

In Rikka's words:
What you sew is up to you. I suggest something small and easy like a zippered pouch, potholders, or a small pillow. Re-fashioning an existing piece is another option.
Hope to see you there...

... Pam

  1. Gold Star congratulations!!
I really want to try smocking, it seems to have gone out of fashion but I love smocked dresses on little girls, but there is no way I'm ready for anything that complex.. but I'd love to see yo do it, I'm sure you'd have it mastered in no time!
