Easy to Make Tissue Pack Holders

Tissue pack holders - what a great way to use up tiny pieces of scrap fabric!!! And they take next to no time to make. I've seen various styles of tissue holders around for a while, but it's taken until now for me to make some.

Over a year ago I showcased the Easiest Tissue Pack Holder tutorial by Julie, from Sum of their Stories. That post generated a lot of interest, and I'm not surprised as many of us carry those little purse packs of tissues in our handbags.

The tissue pack holders can be made in various combinations - all in one fabric, or with 2, 3, 4 or 5 contrasting fabrics.

Many tissue packs now have an opening towards the top, instead of the centre. Just cut a hole in the pack and the tissues will be easy to pull out (blue/pink tissue holder)...

OR - take the tissues out of the packet and put them inside the fabric holder (brown tissue holder)..

OR - grab some tissues from a large box and fold them yourself (no photo of that one).

I've tried all methods, and the tissues pull out as easily with each method. I'd like to think I'll save money and fold my own tissues. The reality is, I know I'll resort to the store bought pocket packs at least some of the time.

I had a lovely time sorting through my scrap fabric stash, and it feels really good to have used up quite a few of those small pieces.

All up, I've made 42 tissue pack holders - one for me, one for Mr TMW (he actually asked me to make him one when he saw what I was sewing. Makes my day when he asks me to sew something for him). And the rest are headed for Sewing for Charity Australia, where they'll be given out to various charitable organisations.

The Pocket Pack Tissue Holder Tutorial is very straight forward and easy to follow. The only thing I changed was to trim my seams a little before neatening and turning.

I know I'll be making more tissue pack holders in the future. This is feel good, stash busting sewing, that requires very little concentration - good for those times when I want to achieve something, but don't want to think too hard. And, I have plenty of small scraps left - they're multiplying all the time.

What are your favourite projects to make with small pieces of scrap fabric?

  1. Think I may have expressed this before, but I still have no fave project to use up scraps (not that I tend to have lots). But I truly admire what you've done here. So which ones did the two of you keep for yourselves? That brown one is sort of masculine...

  2. Nifty idea of making a tissue holder. Uses smaller scraps than the traditional holder. I like making square coasters that way too.
