Sewn by YOU ~ Tiered Gathered Skirt

Gathered skirts are the staple of any little girl's wardrobe. Easy to make and comfortable to wear, they're a win win. What's more, you don't need much yardage of fabric, especially when made with co-ordinating colours.

Tiered gathered skirt ~ Stone Cottage Adventures

Marci, from Stone Cottage Adventures, whipped up this adorable Prairie Skirt using my tiered ruffle skirt tutorial. But she didn't make it exactly as is in the tutorial - she modified the pattern and substituted fabric for the bottom tier, instead of lace. I love it, Marci!!!

And see how she's teamed it with a denim jacket. Totally changes the look. The end result from the same tutorial - two different styles.

Marci made the skirt as a present for a little girl - adding the denim jacket, leggings and t-shirt as well as a matching bag and hat. A great idea for a present.

Do you follow patterns and tutorials to the letter, do you modify them to suit your needs, or do you use them only as a starting point?

  1. As you probably already know, I'm definitely a "modifier". (What's the point of hand making something if you can't make it "just so", right?) That said, if a pattern was really complex, I'd probably do it to the letter to ensure success.

  2. Those are both so pretty, the original and the modified version! I also enjoy modifying patterns, though sometimes I just love the original so much I just want to outright copy it! :) Lisa

  3. Oh, wow! Thank you for the feature! I've made many versions of your skirt and it's always a big hit with little girls, especially if they get to choose the fabric! You know I love your website. There are so many wonderful tutorials here. -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
