Not Much Blogging ~ Update on Mum... and me

It's been just over a month since Mum broke her hip. I've managed to do a little on the blog, but not much, so I thought it was time to give you all an update.

Mum is continuing to make good progress, but it's a very slow process - far too slow for Mum's liking. If all goes according to plan, and so far it has, she's reached the half way mark to returning home to her beloved garden.

It's been a stressful and very busy time for me, too, at times pushing me to my absolute limit. It's funny how it has often been the little, insignificant things that have caused a meltdown.

When staying at Mum's I tend to carry my mobile phone around in the back pocket of my jeans, so it's always within reach. Not such a good idea as I found out when said mobile fell into the (clean) toilet at 9 o'clock one night. According to a Google search, putting the phone into a bag of rice might dry it out. No rice at Mum's, so off to the local shops. Not familiar with the car park, and perhaps (definitely) not thinking clearly, I couldn't find the exit to the shops. I seriously drove round and round, thinking I'd be there all night - and no phone to ring anyone. I totally lost the plot!!! Thankfully a random stranger showed me the exit before I drove though the entry barrier.

Mr TMW drove down and gave me a spare mobile, so I could still be contacted by the hospital if needed. I'm sure if Mr TMW were to give his version as to how I appeared at this stage, the words... hysterical and illogical would be mentioned. He quite wisely resisted the urge to inform me of this, and was very patient.

Even though the phone continued to work after being stuck in the rice all night, I could see what appeared to be water behind the screen, and as I couldn't be without a phone at this time, I bought another. Of course the Apple sales guy tried to sell me an updated, and more expensive, phone. Nothing in his sales pitch convinced me to buy the newer phone, until he mentioned it was WATERPROOF. Yep, I'll have that one, I said. Not that I plan on dropping this one into a toilet - and no, I'm not carrying it in my back jeans pocket anymore.

I can laugh now, although it was anything but funny at the time. Thought it might give you all a bit of a giggle, though. Do tell me I'm not the only one who has had an accident with a mobile.

I've settled into a routine, of sorts, meltdowns have stopped, and I am now able to get home roughly every second day, enabling me to spend some time in my beloved garden. Mr TMW has kept it watered and well looked after in my absence, while I'm looking after Mum and her garden. Not to mention he's kept me supplied with frozen meals he's cooked and he's ever so patiently listened to me offloading. Don't know where I'd be without him!

I even managed to do a little sewing one day.

When I'm home, I update the Daily Featured Free Tutorial over there in the sidebar (so it's not really daily at the moment), and I've done a couple of showcased tutorials. I have so much to share with you - there's a new tutorial in the works, a new bag to show you, two books to review, and so much more.

And, I'm so far behind with blog reading, that I think at some point I'll have to mark all as read, and start anew. If I often comment on your posts, don't think I'm ignoring you. I will be back.

But, first things first - Mum is my priority at the moment.

... Pam

  2. Oh Pam, you are carrying a heavy load right now! I have no doubt I would have come unraveled with all that you are having to do right now. It doesn't take much for me to have a meltdown when things become to much. AND dropping your phone in the toilet would have been the last thread for me as well. I would just sit in the garden with your Mum and only do what is necessary and relax!

  3. Hugs to you Pam!!! I understand. It's hard enough to be out of your normal routine, but having to take care of a loved one and being thrown out of your usual routine makes things stressful. Breathe! Things will get better. Don't worry about your blog or visiting others, life happens we all understand that. Take care of yourself too. Here's another hug because I know you need more than one, lol!!!

  4. I hope your mum will continue to recover. Thinking of you Pam! And to make you feel better, we washed my husband's mobile phone in a washing machine. Drying it in rice or the oven did not help.

  5. You have been through a lot, so it's perfectly understandable you have had experienced trying times. It sounds as if your mum's recovery is on track. Hopefully she will be able to look after herself and her garden very soon and you will be able to be back in your own home.

  7. I feel for you, when you are on the edge it really doesn't take much to push you over does it?!
My phone has spent many a night in a bag of rice, it's all very normal! I also have a funny story about a supermarket car park but mine was that I couldn't get in not out! We had just moved and it was our nearest supermarket but it's on a weird and very bust roundabout, I missed it 3 times before I finally worked out what lane to be in to get in (and then they didn't have what I was going for!!!)
Yay! for a day when you managed to sew a little. It will pass, what a good thing you have someone to be a sounding board when you need to let off a little steam, just saying it out loud can make all the difference.
