Today's showcased tutorial has everything - playing with dye to create fun effects, upcycling denim jeans and embellishing with a little hand stitching, all to create these adorable pencil cases. They'd be perfect for Valentines Day!
Vicky, from Vicky Myers Creations, shows how to make a Shibori Style Denim Hearts Pencil Case. The tutorial starts with various methods for dying the denim jeans fabric, then moves on to hand stitching the dyed fabric. To add the hearts, Vicky gives detailed instructions for reverse raw edge appliqué, as in the top pencil case. This one's my favourite! She then finishes off with directions for sewing the pencil case.
Vicky added her denim hearts pencil case to the Refashioning with Denim link party. You might like to check out the following links at the Refashioning with Denim linky...

Oh these are cute. I just found a shibori scarf/small tablecloth with tassels at an estate sale. Some member of the family was over in Japan for a number of years. I love the tiny dots where the fabric was tied off tightly. When I went to Japan, we visited a Shibori museum where they teach classes. The workmanship on this scarf is amazing. I've done reverse applique before - I might have to try this heart pouch.
ReplyDeleteI do like that :)
