Drawstring Laundry Bags for NICU Babies

Drawstring bags are quick and easy to make, so when Ros put out the call to help make some for NICU babies, I didn't hesitate in replying that I'd make some.

The bags are for babies in the NICU at the Northern Hospital in Melbourne (Australia). Each baby needs a cotton drawstring bag, to be used as a laundry bag for their gowns and jumpsuits.

Ros has written a tutorial for this simple drawstring bag, and her post includes mailing details.

I whipped up seven bags - they don't take long!

Each bag takes ½ yard fabric, so that's 3½ yards all up. Didn't even make a visible dent in the stash!

I love the fabric! A couple of years ago I bought a whole bolt - Paper Dolls by Sheryl Rae Marquez for Windham Fabrics. It's out of print now, but I still have plenty left.

I'll be adding these drawstring laundry bags to both the Sewing for Charity and the Drawstring Bags link parties, here at Threading My Way.

  1. I bought 54 fat quarters today (plus 3 yards (yardage) ... I think making any kind of dent in stash is going to be a monumental task :D But - who could resist 62 cents (US) per FQ? Not me!

Great idea for laundry bags for the littlest ones -- such cute fabric!
