Additions to the Stash

It's less than a month since I showed you the last fabric I acquired and today I'm showing you even more fabric that has entered my house in the last two days.

Umbrella Prints recently had a sale and I just couldn't help myself. Once a year they have a one weekend only massive $20 bundle sale - cottons, organic cottons and screen printed organic hemp/cotton.

Isn't this neutral soft bundle gorgeous!!! After seeing Noodlehead's Umbrella Prints Rainbow Clutch, I'd love to make one. The pattern is in her new book, but unfortunately, at around $40AUD, it's a tad too pricey for me. I'm sure the book is worth every cent of the price, as Anna's patterns are lovely and there are twenty three projects in the book.

However, I have a habit of only making one, or at most two projects from each of the books I own, so I prefer to buy individual patterns. I'm crossing my fingers that my local library will buy a copy.

I'm not sure about the green fabric in the Cool bundle. It's a fabulous design, but I don't sew much with green. Maybe time to step out of my comfort zone.

I'll do some sort of patchwork with these fabrics. In the past, I've made a Crazy Patchwork Zippered Pouch and a Quilt As You Go Fabric Basket with Umbrella Prints fabrics. Maybe I'll mix the two bundles, maybe not. What do you think?

The second group of fabrics are NOTHING like the Umbrella Print fabrics. They were given to me by someone I've never even met - the relative of a good friend. She's the same lady who gave me the last lot of fabrics I showed you.

Apparently she was somehow connected with dancing, hence all the bling and tulle. I'll be able to go to town with dress up costumes. Can you think what else I could do with them?

This is only a small portion of the tulle I was given. There are metres and metres and metres of purple tulle, as well as white.

If I worked in an office, I'd be making a skirt with this grey suiting fabric. Maybe I could make myself a pair of dress pants. There's more than enough fabric.

There's not a lot of the red - about half a metre of each. Again, not sure what I'll do with it, but it's a really good quality crepe.

I'm quite excited, as I'll soon get to meet this generous lady. She's wanting to get rid of more of her stash. How could I say No

  1. So funny you should mention the book - I was on the prowl for it last night after seeing her double zip pouch - I would have bought the book just for that project if the price had been lower or if there had been a less expensive e-version. There are actually 10 bags/cases in the book but without a preview of what they look like, I'm not taking a chance with that kind of money ($30 CDN) ... especially since - like you - I'm likely to only make 1 or 2 projects :D

Love your new fabrics - especially that bundle of neutrals! I saw a quilt yesterday that caught my eye - it was made with a lot of neutrals, with the addition of red and blue prints. YUMMY. I actually sent it to a friend last night who just finished a quilt made with neutrals and red prints - I thought it would be a nice design for her backing, since she's piecing leftovers for it :)
Those blingy tulle prints are gorgeous, but I can only come up with dress-up costumes and tutus. MANY tutus :D

  2. Great acquire! I love that dreamy natural bundle! I think the cool bundle would mix well with the natural bundle, except the elephants ones...cute fabrics though. The green fabric is cool too, if you can cut it in a big piece to show off that bird.
I wonder if this generous lady was making and selling tutus? I use tulle for Christmas tree decoration. And thinking of re-making my girl's old tutu dress into a wreath.

  5. I'm a lover of neutral colors myself. They all look so pretty. I rely on my local library as well. I hope they order some new books soon, like Emmalinebags new one or Noodlehead's. I think I need to fill out the form for "book recommendations".

  6. Tulle makes a nice fancy outer layer on zipper pouches. Just layer with a solid and use the two pieces as your exterior. I love the bird on that green piece!

  7. Love your fabric purchases, they're beautiful, and look forward to seeing what you make with them. The tulle would be great for so many girly things I think - as well as dress up (although so much variation just with that - wings, skirts, cloaks, dresses...) I'm sure it could be used in party type dresses and skirts, maybe with a plainer fabric underneath or possibly used underneath another fabric to create a flared out look? And what about in different ways as decor in a girl's room - dangling canopies above a bed etc?

It conveys the idea of carefully weaving one's path through various circumstances or situations.
