Gathered Lace Skirt for Skirting the Issue...

Each year, the girls at Simple Simon and Company host Skirting the Issue, a month long event where everyone is invited to sew along and make skirts to donate to the charity of their choice.

Fabrics:

Making a girl's skirt really is very easy and it's not at all hard to work out the measurements to draft your own pattern. This one I made with a simple yoke, adding two more tiers, each one slightly gathered. Using lace as the bottom layer even eliminates the need for a hem.

Last year I made two skirts and five pillowcases in support of Skirting the Issue. I think they're sticking to skirts this year. This year, however, I've only managed the one, but, even if I do say so myself, I think it is adorable. I know it's subjective, but to my eye, the proportions are right and the colour combination works perfectly. Usually it takes me ages to co-ordinate fabrics, but this combo took about two minutes. Yay!!! All that practice is paying off.

This little skirt will be making its way to Anglicare, where it will be given to a disadvantaged girl in Sydney.

I have more of these fabrics left and just happen to know a little family member who would love a skirt exactly the same, so I'll make another in a different size, taking a few photos along the way and then I'll write up a tutorial so you can make your own gathered lace skirt.
