Petite Fille Dress...

It's been a while since I've done any sewing for Dress A Girl Around the World. Looking back through the blog, it was October last year when I made two Darling Daisy dresses. This time I've used the Petite Fille Style dress pattern, by Puperita.

The PDF pattern is a breeze to put together, with pattern pieces for the bodice and measurements given for the skirt.

To break up the colour, I added piping between the bodice and the skirt. I cut the strip to make the piping 1.5" wide. After folding and sewing, it ends up at 3/8" wide. My machine didn't notice the extra two layers of fabric to sew through. To make the piping sit nicely, I've added a row of topstitching to the bodice.

The bows are designed so that no matter how you tie them, the main fabric will show and not the lining fabric. This is a great feature, yet very simple.

Thanks, Wholeport. for supplying the fabric for this project... Ground Grid Pattern by Sharon Kessler for Vera Bradley. The cotton fabric is 59" in width, so I only needed 1 yard. For the lining I've chosen an off white fabric from my stash. It's a bit hard to see from the photos, but the lining has subtle hearts, leaves and butterflies.

The pattern includes instructions for horizontal pleats on the skirt, but I omitted these. Next time, I'll add the pleats, as they add a nice touch. I first heard about Puperita patterns via Jenya, from While She Was Sleeping. Have a look at Jenya's Petite Fille Style dress, to see the effect the pleats create.

I found the dress very quick and easy to make. The instructions are very detailed with lots of photos.

This is the second Puperita pattern I've sewn up, the first being the Going Coastal Long Shorts. I still have another four I've purchased but have yet to sew.

This little dress will be making it's way to the Australian rep for Dress A Girl. I'll wait till I've made a few more first, though.

The Petite Fille Style dress will be joining the 400+ dresses in the Dresses for Girls collection here at Threading My Way. If you've made a dress I'd love you to add it to the link party.
