What's Happening in August...

Just a quick heads up on some sewing related happenings in August...

When Emily invited me to take part in, Sew Many Books, children's clothes inspired by children's books, I didn't hesitate. Combining two of the things I am passionate about; children's literature and sewing for children, immediately had my head swimming with ideas. Starts Monday...

Kristy, from Hopeful Threads, is teaming up with Sew For Kids to help the kids on the Pine Ridge Reservation with back to school supplies. The main focus for the Back to School Sew-Along is pencil cases.

Secret Squirrel is the brainchild of Suz, from Sew Pony and An, from StraightGrain. Secret Squirrel began his journey in Australia, last month and is scheduled to arrive in Belgium, July 2014. Where he will travel is unknown. Open to all...maybe he'll stop with you.

http://swimbikequilt.com/2013/07/100-quilts-for-kids-charity-quilt-drive-starts-today.html The annual 100 Quilts for Kids charity drive, runs from 1st July to 30th September and is organised by Swim Bike Quilt

Bonnie, from Fishstick Designs, is running the Charlie Tee Sewalong, in conjunction with Pattern Revolution. The first week has already started, sewing the Charlie Tee, over at Pattern Revolution and the second week will be the sewing the Charlie Hoodie, back at Fishstick Designs.

Fluff Project (large) The Fluff Project is all about making stuffed toys for children in foster care. What started as a monthly project, co-ordinated by Kristy, from Hopeful Threads, has now turned into an ongoing drive.

A group of bloggers, co-ordinated by Suz, from Sew Pony, are each recreating one of their favourite childhood outfits for their own daughters. When We Were Young runs till the beginning of September. I'm hoping to sew along, recreating one of my childhood outfits.

Simple Simon and Co Skirting the Issue, organised by Simple Simon and Company will run till August 18th. It's not just about skirts this year. I've made pillowcases as well as skirts. You can also make blankets, dolls and bereavement gowns.

Jessica, from Quilty Habit, is running the Lantern-a-long. The sew-along began in July and doesn't finish till 18th August. There's still time to join in if you're quick.

The 1st charity drive this year (in addition to making dresses), for Dress a Girl Around the World, Sydney, is 100 Days of Quilting; making quilts for children in Romania. The drive runs until October. Handmade for Charity, is co-ordinating a sew-along in support of 100 Days of Quilting.

  2. I tried finding information on the Sew Many Books program that's starting on Monday, but only one post came up with that label, and that post was for a Tasteful Tuesday Party. Even the clickable buttons on the sidebar went to the TT Party link - is there another url we can look at to see what it's all about?
