Felt Masks...

When I wanted to make some felt masks, I headed straight for the Pretend Dress Up Clothes collection, here at Threading My Way. I found exactly what I was looking for... templates for superhero masks. Jessica, over at Cutesy Crafts, has done all the hard work, and has created templates for seven different superhero masks.

Batman was the only one I specifically had in mind, as one of the little people in the family is right into anything Batman at the moment. Yes, I know it should be black, and I'm almost certain that the colour difference will be noticed, but navy blue is what I had on hand. He'll just have to use his imagination.

The Spiderman mask appealed to me, not because I'm a fan of Spiderman, but because I thought the mask was cool with all the spiderweb stitching.

The third mask is a modification of the Wolverine mask. It's for a little Miss who is going through a pink stage, so if she's going to join in and wear a superhero mask, it would have to be pink. Who says princesses can't wear pink superhero masks?

And the last one is simply the Spiderman mask made without the spiderwebs. These masks were just so quick and easy to make. Thanks for sharing your templates, Jessica!

There is a big difference in the quality of the felts I have. The bottom pink one is a little scratchy, whereas the others are much softer. I've bought them at different times from different places and can't remember what type of felt they are. In fact, I know very little about felt. I do know that I've always purchased felt that could be washed.

At the moment I'm experimenting with making my own felt, from woollen jumpers and skivvies, so I'll no doubt know a lot more about felt at the end of my experiment. I'll let you know how I get on.

  5. Awesome! Love the pink ones! I'll let you in on a secret... the Batman mask on my blog is Navy too because that is what I had! Haha. Can't tell at all, and I believe the original Batman was blue anyway. :)

  7. Fun stitching Pam!

Will be interested in your felting experiments. The range of felt colours available locally is dismal, as I discovered when looking for grey felt today!
