Foundation Paper Pieced Ladybird...

Yes, I've done some more Foundation Paper Piecing. This time, to test a 5" ladybird block, for Juliet, over at Tartankiwi. I love this little ladybird.

Here is my ladybird before I trimmed it.

As it was two months since I had attended the class on sewing a Mariners Compass, I needed to do a bit of reading on Foundation Paper Piecing. These are the two sites I found the most helpful:
I thoroughly enjoyed my second experience with Foundation Piecing and am keen to do more in 2013.

Preview of Juliet's Ladybird block pattern...
Polka dot fabric is the obvious choice to make this cute, little ladybird. Juliet's used a large polka dot on her 5" Ladybird block

You'll be able to make your own ladybird, as the pattern will be released soon, along with a 5" butterfly. If you are into Foundation Paper Piecing, check out the free patterns already available, over at Tartankiwi:
I'm thinking this little ladybird might end up on the front of a bag, but I'm not sure. What would you suggest?

... Pam

  1. Cute ladybug - I used to do a LOT of paper piecing - it's my favourite way to get accurate seams! I would use her the centre panel for a drawstring gift bag, since that's actually on my To Do list for this year, LOL. I'm making a ladybug gift for a little girl for her 2nd birthday in June - a ladybug sunhat and stuffy, tucked into a ladybug drawstring bag. I'm even going to try to make a ladybug gift tag for it :)

  3. What a great job you did on this paper piecing lady bug. Love the purple instead of red. Paperpiecing is absolutely the best way to get precise points. Great that this one is done in two sections. Well Done.

  5. Love the contrast of purple and green. A purse/bag is a great idea. I can also see a mini quilt with the butterfly and perhaps others to come that would look great on a porch or sun room. EnJOYed (and envying your warm weather right now.)
